Introduction

Technical Editor for Eye on the Sea's Wreck Tech page is Pete Mesley, one of New Zealand's best-known technical divers.

Pete is a PADI Course Director and NZ's most experienced Technical Diving Instructor Trainer with over 3000-hours of in-water experience. He is a TDI Trimix Instructor, Semi-closed Rebreather & Closed-circuit Inspiration Rebreather Instructor (over 450 hours on CCR) and has dived at locations around the world including The Red Sea, South Africa and Zimbabwe, the Solomon Islands Guadalcanal, Vanuatu, Borneo and Sipidan to name a few.

Pete is currently Director of Training at Dive HQ in Auckland NZ, and has been in charge of supervising many diving activities - from ice diving to deep wreck exploration dives and events such as Tanya Streeters 90 meter variable ballast sled dive in New Zealand in June 2000 (Safety & support Supervisor). Pete has had significant experience in leading deep dive expeditions to wrecks like HMRNZ Puriri (a Kiwi minesweeper sunk in 1940's in a 100m of water off the coast of NZ), The RMS Niagara (a luxurious Ocean liner lying in 125m of water), the Michael Lermontov and the President Coolidge in Vanuatu, so is ideally qualified to answer all your questions on the subject of wreck and technical diving!
