By choice and necessity we spend a large amount of time underwater on Eye on the Sea's various projects, and as such we need dive equipment that is totally dependable and functional in a wide range of conditions. Aqualung supplies us with high quality BCD's, regulators, masks, fins and accessories that have proven reliable throughout constant hard use. We use Seaquest Pro QD and Balance BCD's, Aqualung Cousteau and Apex regulators, Idea fins, and Tyke masks.

Dave uses one of two Sony digital video cameras for recording footage of marine life for 'Eye on the Sea's research and advocacy projects; a TRV7 in a Sony MPK housing, and a PD100 DV-Cam with wide-angle lens. Both these cameras have proven to be totally reliable in a range of environments from tropical to temperate waters and down to depths of 60m or more. Project Eye on the Sea also uses Sony digital video and VHS tapes, memory sticks and various other peripheral equipment.
Sony; leaders in the field of digital video and audio technology.

Diving for filming and research involves long hours underwater and often multiple dives over multiple days, and staying warm becomes a high priority in our temperate waters! Oceandry assist Eye on the Sea's projects by providing us with their top of the line Bravo 6 Dolphin drysuit for warmth in all conditions. We have our suits custom made with heavy duty zips and boots, extra pockets and (for Dave) a pee valve! Oceandry are second to none with their friendly after-sales service.

An integral part of Eye on the Sea's activities is recording still images of the underwater marine life we observe, whether it is for identification purposes, inclusion on the website or to accompany articles. Top quality imaging equipment is essential, and Dave uses a a Nikon F90X SLR camera inside a Sea & Sea NX90 housing, as well as a range of Sea & Sea ports and strobes. The quality of workmanship on Sea & Sea equipment is superb; camera housing controls are comprehensive and well positioned, optics are excellent and ancillary equipment such as strobes efficient and robust. The resulting image quality is excellent, providing an important tool in our efforts to promote marine conservation through appreciation. The Eye on The Sea team also use a Sea & Sea DX3000 compact waterproof digital camera for fast web site updates!

Eye on the Sea's underwater lighting needs are taken care of by Knightlight's powerful dual-beam dive torches. These are heavy-duty high performance dive lights with 50-watt and 20-watt equivalent dual wide-angle Halogen beams, pressure tested to 150m and with long-life fast-charge 12-volt batteries. We use these versatile torches as supplementary underwater video lights and as primary lights for night diving and cave exploration: we believe they are the best dive lights available.
Knightlight; the last dive light you will ever buy.
Mac Boats
Our current Bronze whaler shark research project requires us to be able to visit and dive offshore islands such as the Poor Knights in a safe and reliable vessel. With New Zealand's unpredictable weather it is essential that we have a stable and seaworthy boat that is practical to dive and film from in varied conditions and able to take a few knocks along the way! The vessel provided for Eye on the Sea's use by Mac boats fits these criteria perfectly, constructed of tough roto-moulded polyethlene it is light, strong, easy to tow and launch, economical to run and very low maintenance. We highly recommend Mac boats to anyone needing a strong reliable dive boat.
